Harshit Thakur Shines at West Zone Badminton Tournament

Chhattisgarh, – The badminton teams from Chhattisgarh delivered a stellar performance at the West Zone Inter-State Badminton Tournament, held from September 3rd to 6th in Anand, Gujarat. The event saw teams from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Goa, and Chhattisgarh competing in a highly competitive atmosphere.

In the Junior Boys (Under-19) category, Chhattisgarh’s team achieved a commanding 2-0 victory over Maharashtra in the finals, securing the championship title. This exceptional performance highlighted the prowess of Chhattisgarh’s young athletes on a prominent stage.

In the Senior Men’s category, Chhattisgarh also emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over Maharashtra. The matches were marked by intense competition and impressive play. Raunak Chauhan won the first singles match decisively against Maharashtra’s Varun Kapoor with scores of 21-10, 21-18. The second singles match saw Maharashtra’s Arya Bhiwapathki overcoming Chhattisgarh’s Jayaditya Pratap Singh with scores of 21-12, 21-15. The doubles match was a thrilling contest, with Chhattisgarh’s Ayush Makheeja and Sujay Tamboli narrowly defeating Maharashtra’s Krish Desai and Deep Rambhia in three sets: 21-18, 8-21, 21-5. Harshit Thakur clinched the victory for Chhattisgarh by winning the decisive third singles match against Maharashtra’s Rohan Guruvaani with scores of 24-22, 21-12.

In addition to the team victories, Harshit Thakur shone individually by securing the gold medal in the Senior Men’s individual competition. Thakur triumphed over Rohan Gurwani in the finals with straight sets of 24-21, 21-12. He will also be competing in the finals of the West Zone individual competition.

Chhattisgarh’s Junior Girls (Under-19) team also made a notable impact, finishing as runners-up in their category, further underscoring the state’s badminton excellence.

The President of the Chhattisgarh Badminton Association, Vikram Sisodia, along with other officials, extended heartfelt congratulations to all the teams for their outstanding performance and dedication throughout the tournament.
